Self-Care and Why it’s Important

How important is it to take care of yourself? Do you find yourself irritated, impatient, tired and overall not your best self? Are you a mom, caregiver, or partner that is not getting enough sleep and being short with people around you but at the same time you do everything for everyone before you do anything for yourself?


When you stop taking care of yourself and do not make yourself a priority your whole body feels the effects. You feel heavy, depressed and all around not in a good place mentally, physically and emotionally. When you don’t feel good, you can't be your best self for anyone.


What are some of the things you like to do to take care of yourself?


Here are some suggestions, perhaps you will find something you have not done before and like to try:


  • Take a nice warm bath

  • Mediation

  • Go for a walk or a hike

  • Spa day

  • Doing something that you love to do

  • Journaling

  • Read a book

  • Watch a favorite movie/show

  • Listen to soothing music

  • Have your favorite meal

  • Take a few slow, deep breaths

  • Take a nap

  • Do puzzles

  • Do something creative (drawing/painting)

  • Be in the present, observe your surroundings


When you are in a good place, you and those around you can feel it and it changes everyone's mood. Don’t wait until you are in a bad mood to take care of yourself. Everyday you should do at least one thing for yourself. Even the smallest of things can make a big difference. Know that it is ok to put yourself first! In the end everyone will be happier for it.
